Demerara Bank Limited (DBL) – Guyana’s first private sector indigenous bank – was incorporated in 1992 and declared open on November 12, 1994. DBL currently has seven branches strategically located across the country – including a Corporate Office to cater to the Bank’s corporate customers, nine ATM locations, and offers a wide range of commercial banking services.
The idea of a private sector bank was conceived by Dr. Yesu Persaud, who envisioned the establishment of a bank in Guyana that captures the latest technology, fosters innovation, and provides export trade finance, all while offering high-quality, personalised and competitive services. Today, DBL remains committed to this vision and provides banking products and services such as savings and term deposit accounts; loans; money exchange services; visa credit cards; and Internet banking services. In addition, DBL aims to support the Guyanese community through its stewardship of green energy initiatives, which includes operating most of its locations on renewable energy to reduce its carbon footprint, and the Bank’s support of causes related to sports, education, health and safety, as well as other areas of community development.
